Cow Shares
Way back when William and I were first married we were milking a small herd of dairy goats. Our friend, Michelle, and her 7 year old son Damien came over for an evening visit and dinner and her son was present while I milked our little Alpine does. When it came time to eat my husband offered Damien a glass of milk but he resolutely shook his head and said “Oh no, I’m not drinking anything that came from one of those animals!” His mom laughed and asked “Well Damien, we drink milk from the store, but it comes from a cow first.” He just shook his head and said “No, that milk doesn’t come from an animal.” So she asked him “Well where does it come from then?” He just looked at her and said “I don’t know, but they’ve got other ways.” We had a good laugh. I guarantee that here at Real Food Farming we have no “other ways” to produce sweet, raw milk except a cow, good pasture, and clean water. If you are interested in farm-fresh milk then you will need to purchase a “share” of the cow. As a part owner of a cow you have every right to consume the milk in any way you see fit. Please contact us and ask us about a cow share agreement.
